 Close shave, but cleaning system is short lived! December 18, 2008
This is my second ES8077. The first one lasted about 1 month before the base unit cleaning system quit working. I had to send the base and the shaver back at my expense for repair/replacement under warranty. After waiting over a month and shaving with my worn out Remington, I received a refurbished replacement unit, which was a slightly different model. That was just over a year ago. Now the second unit's cleaning system has quit working. The shaver still works fine and the charger works, the cleaning system just won't turn on. (This happened just after I bought 3 more expensive cleaning filters). I have changed filters regularly and kept the unit clean; the cleaning system just doesn't hold up well.
In summary, the unit gives a decent close shave, but the cleaning system is junk! I wish I would have bought a Braun! Anyone want to buy some new cleaning filters? When the shaver head wears out I will definitely buy another brand!
 Good razor if you have 20 min's to shave December 12, 2008
I was very excited to receive this product, based on the reviews. But, I was extremely disappointed in its performance.
Here is what I experienced with this razor:
x Did not cut evenly
x Did not cut all my facial hair on first or, sometimes, second pass
x As a result, often took longer than using a hand-held (regular) razor blade
x Messy storage device that's not easy to clean
x Expensive cleaning cartridges
Pros:
Held a charge for a long time
Did like trimmer device
Looks nice
I ended up going back to my hand-held razor and may get another Philips/Norelco, as I've personally had better experiences with those.

Panasonic ES8077S Vortex Hydraclean System
I was quite happy with my ES8077. It gave a good shave; it could be used in the shower; and, it worked well with shaving gel for a really smooth shave without any skin irritation. It was at least as good as the Norelco/Philips shaver that I had before in terms of shave closeness. Unlike the Norelco shaver, it was easy to keep clean and still looks pretty new after 2 years of solid use. I tried using the HydraClean Hygienic Cleaning System a couple of times, but it took up too much space on the counter around my sink and it didn't really seem to do anything necessary, so I stopped using it after about a month and just rinsed the shaver off under the tap after every use, which seemed to work fine. After two years of reliable service, my shaver stopped working suddenly last week. Considering the cost of the shaver, it would have been nice if it had lasted at least one more year :( Oh well, here I am now shopping for a new one.

I read a lot of reviews on electric razors and compared on paper the Norelco, Panasonic, and Braun. My top criteria were closeness of shave and price, although I liked the fact that the Panasonic was a wet shaver as well.
I received the product quickly after purchasing on Amazon. The price was very good since there was a $[...] Panasonic rebate offered at the time. The razor works as described. I use it with shaving cream and I get a fairly close shave, almost as close as the Gillette V mach fusion razor which I was using prior. The only exception is the neck area, which I have to go over with the Gillete.
Overall this is an excellent razor and I have no regrets in the purchase.
