3 out of 5 stars Nice, but BUY Largest Size   January 6, 2009
I think the idea of this product is great. The rolling box is certainly helpful, but I have found that as my kitten has gotten bigger she doesn't like it as much as the open air one. She is still pretty small, but she almost makes the "regular" size one look too small.

Pro: rolls nice and easy clean up
Cons: TOO small and maybe not worth the nice clean up.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding :)   January 6, 2009
This product is awesome, you can even do it one-handed, lol...my cat will push out the handle and that means its time to change it, lol, i love my cat and this great product!!!

5 out of 5 stars clean   January 6, 2009
This is the best litter box. My daughter is a cat person, presently owning 5. She and the cats love this box. Great buy!

5 out of 5 stars Tossed my Cat Genie for this more reliable low-tech solution   January 3, 2009
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I wrestled with a Cat Genie for about 18 months, dealing with the endless problems -- the frequent errors and beeping as the machine stalled (despite going through 3 motor units), the godawful clogs/smells, the pools of waste on my floor, the unpleasant and time-consuming maintenance, as well dealing with the significant expense of constantly purchasing the litter granules and the cleaning cartridges -- before finally giving up in frustration. I researched the options, looking for a system that would free me from manually scooping but which would also avoid the built-in problems that come with mechanical solutions. I finally decided on the Omega. I wasn't too hopeful after my nightmare with the Cat Genie (and let's not even talk about the piece of poo known as the LitterMaid), but I was immediately rewarded for my purchase. No constant vigilance and finding fixes -- just simple, effective litter cleanup. The day after buying my Omega, I wrapped up my Cat Genie, stash of cartridges and granules, and tossed the whole shebang in the trash. I could have sold the lot to recoup some of my loss, but I was so eager to see the last of it I didn't bother. I am so relieved to be done with the Cat Genie.

I don't understand the 1- and 2-star reviews. I think either the reviewers got defective units, had unrealistic expectations, or didn't set up and use the Omega correctly (not that it's at all difficult).

That said, the Omega is not without shortcomings. The "self-cleaning" moniker is a bogus bit of marketing that the company should drop, especially since some people apparently take the claim literally and expect to have to do no work. You do have to bang a couple of times on the bottom of the box when rolling to dislodge clumps. And some litter does spill out occasionally when rolling. And you do have to scoop out the odd clump now and then. And maybe the clips are not as robust as they could be, but mine show no signs of breaking after 6 months, and besides, what do you expect for this low price? (The Omega itself costs about about ten bucks less than a 3-pack of Cat Genie cartridges!)

The main advice I would give is not to overfill the Omega. With too much litter, the spills out of the box increase, and there's also more clean litter in the tray that you have to toss. (When I get a lot of clean litter in the waste tray, I just dump the whole mess back in the litterbox and re-roll, and that seems to take care of the problem.) Also, a more gentle rolling seems to reduce the amount of clean litter in the tray. And when you roll it, grip the waste tray handle and push it in simultaneously -- this closes up any gap where litter can leak out.

I would also recommend purchasing the Petmate Litter Locker Plus with Microban when you order the Omega. It's also a very good, if imperfect, product, that further reduces your interaction with cat poo. Just roll the Omega, remove the tray and dump the waste into the Litter Locker (which comes with a scoop for those errant clumps). Do a half-turn of the Litter Locker wheel, and you're done. The whole process takes about 45 seconds.

The Omega is probably a 4-star product, in my opinion; it could use a few tweaks to improve it, but considering the dubious alternatives, I'm giving it it a 5.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Never use a rake again, and no spills on the floor!   January 2, 2009
We've used the regular litter pan and rake for quite a while. Not any more, thanks to this wonderful invention!

Clean up is easy- just roll it over, roll it back, tilt, pull out the tray, and you're done. You never have to do the "hold-the-bag-and-drop-it-in" routine again. No more litter on the floor from rakes moving waste form the pan to the bag. It's very neat and clean.

Our cat does like to relieve herself along the sides, and with just a few taps on the outside of the box, it cleans up nicely. There are a few small pieces that even my rake won't get, so you will still have to change out the litter and wipe down the box once or twice a week, but this is cake compared to the old pan and rake.

I recommend this %100 to anyone who owns a cat that still uses a litter box. TRUST ME. This is a little piece of heaven. BUY ONE.
