Using Them on a Harley Davidson XL1200N September 8, 2008 The stock headlight and bulb in my Harley are just okay. I put this bulb in and the light went from "on the border of" yellow to very white with a hint of blue. I went down a dark, unlit road the other day and flipped on the brights - WOW! Be sure your headlight is aimed right, because these things project out much farther than your old standard bulb. We'll see how long they last on a rumbling Harley with a stiff suspension, but so far I'd recommend them if you can get them for around $50.
PIAA bulbs June 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
PIAA 15224 H4 Style Xtreme White 12V 60/55=110/100-Watt Bulb - Twin Pack I have used PIAA bulbs for many years in my motorcycles and truck. If you do a lot of night driving on unlit streets or country roads these bulbs will give you more, whiter light to see with. They average between 2-4 years of life. I have seen 1-3 years of life on motorcycles depending on type of bike. Sportbikes with firm suspensions and short wheelbases will see less life due to vibration and road shock. This upgrade is less expensive and less work than converting to HID lights. There are a lot of bulbs out there that offer more light at a cheaper price but you really need to look how much actual wattage those bulbs use. I have seen the cheap, high watt bulbs melt wiring harnesses, electrical connectors and switches on cars and motorcycles. Anything over 80 watts actual usage I would stay away from unless you are planning to add relays and additional heavy gauge wiring and connectors.
An excellent buy May 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These bulbs are fantastic! They aren't "blue" at all. Instead they are pure white. If you look at the bulbs when they're turned on, they give a tiny hint of blue, but the light they emit is completely pure white. They light up the road VERY well and reflect much better off objects than my previous stock halogens. A VERY good buy!!
Can't put a price on safety February 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These things definitely help you see the road better than stock lights. Sure they cost more, but they may just make the difference between seeing that deer in time or hitting it. Also, they make your car look pretty sharp a well. No, they don't have that stupid blue/purple look you see a lot, just a very bright white with a slight blue hue to it, which is not noticeable while driving, just when looking at them from the outside. Definitely recommend them.
Also, just to be clear, to your car, they are the same as any other H4 bulb. They use the same wattage and voltage. Though they are similar to HID lights in terms of light quality, they do not use the same mechanics, and do not need an HID ballast installed like HID conversion kits, which may also be illegal to use, as they often let too much light bleed up toward the eyes of oncoming drivers - nothing gets a cop's ticket-writing hand itchier than being blinded. You don't have anything to worry about using these bulbs.
