Amazon.com Product Description
As an alternative to PC Cards or ExpressCards, the Verizon Wireless USB720 EV-DO Rev A USB Modem has been developed to be compatible with all devices supporting a Type A USB port, including desktops, notebooks, tablet PCs, and PDAs. In addition to this expanded compatibility, the USB720 has some amazing features such as increased upload and download speeds, VZAccess Manager capability, a high performance flip-up antenna, an LED service status indicator, a compact and lightweight design that allows maximum convenience for wireless mobility, and more. Other features include Windows Vista compatibility (as well as 2000 and XP) and Mac OS X compatibility (10.3.9 or higher).

Stay Connected
The USB720 is compatible with Verizon's BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess high-speed wireless data access plans. That means you can get the broadband-like speed you require to work efficiently outside the office.

A Verizon BroadbandAccess plan will give you the freedom to stay productive and connected whether you're on the road or in a meeting across town with broadband-like connection speeds. You will also receive NationalAccess service when outside the BroadbandAccess rate and coverage area. NationalAccess is available in thousands of cities and towns.

The NationalAccess plan is Verizon Wireless' national wireless Internet service, which enables users to access the Internet, email, attachments, and business applications with a laptop at average speeds of 60-80 kbps and bursts up to 144 kbps (you may experience slower data speeds).

Before checkout be sure to choose one of the previously mentioned Verizon wireless data plans to enjoy Unlimited access for Internet browsing, email, and Intranet access. Chose a plan that's right for you. Without a specified Verizon data plan, data service will be charged at 0.25 cents a minute.

Card Design and Features
The USB720 comes with VZAccess Manager software for easy connection management right out of the box. Easy to install and use, the card features a high performance, flip-up antenna for increased speed and coverage allowing you to easily connect from the comforts of your favorite coffee shop, in a board meeting, or on your sofa at home. The card's intuitive user interface is easy to manage while the bright service state LED indicator lets you know signal availability and data transfer status at a glance. There's even an optional external Antenna Connector (sold separately) for times when you need to boost connectivity.

VZAccess Manager is a new customizable tool that lets you manage remote access needs across the country. VZAccess Manager, developed by Verizon Wireless in conjunction with one of its parent companies, Vodafone, is available for BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess wireless PC cards, and Mobile Office Kits. It allows mobile professionals, business, and enterprise customers to easily access Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess services, and their own Wi-Fi and dial-up networks so that they can stay connected wherever they go.

VZAccess Manager is easy to use and simplifies wireless remote access allowing users to stay connected to business-critical email, company databases, files and the Internet while mobile. VZAccess Manager is ideal for information technology managers who seek to deploy a remote access solution that is easy for their employees to use with minimum support requirements.

5 out of 5 stars The best among the rest!   May 24, 2008
I took me a while to decide which one to get. I read the reviews and comments between Tmobile and Verizon plans. I tried to test both but after I tried Verizon, I didn't bother to open and try the package from Tmobile.

Verizon $59.99 plan using this USB720 is fast enough to what I need. I'm online the whole day (8-5), running a trading software, browsing the net, downloading and watching online videos. I think 5GB is more than enough for a month.

Installation is a breeze! Connecting is quick and easy! For four months of using this I haven't encountered any problem at all. Equipment will surely last until the end of the contract and more. I haven't call customer support as I don't need one :D

My bill doesn't have a lot of additional charges. My bill is always less than $62 every month. I think cellphone and internet has different taxes that's why.

Don't hesitate, go with this one!

5 out of 5 stars Long Island & Arizona reviewers : must have had a bad luck?   May 15, 2008

This modem is great. Customer reviewers from Arizona and Long Island, N.Y., may reflect their bad luck only. I'm using this modem since mid-March, on my DELL desktop (XP) and my DELL laptop (Vista). It works great in Maryland (DC area), it worked perfectly a few days ago in Lumberton, North Carolina, where I escaped expected tornadoes and now, at this very moment, it is working great inside my camping trailer at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Go for it.

4 out of 5 stars Laptop owners - cut the cord. It's fast, reliable and comes with domestic tech support.   March 26, 2008

I'm using Vz Access with the USB 720 and have found it to be fast and fairly dependable. Verizon gave me 30 days to decide if I wanted to keep the modem and sign up for the plan. In the end, I decided it's nice to cut the cord and be able to use my laptops anywhere I want to work.

This is an external card that connects via the USB port and I have swapped it between a four year old Dell laptop and a six month old Gateway laptop, both run XP. The USB connector looks fragile. I signed a two year agreement, and I have serious doubts that the card is going to make it to the end of the contract. However, in the four months I've owned it I've given it a few accidental knocks and it hasn't snapped off.

There have been a couple of issues that required a call to tech support. I was very happy to reach domestic centers on both occasions. After bad experiences with Sony tech support compounding the aggravation of technical problems with language and cultural barriers, domestic tech support is high on my priority list.

The monthly fee is $59.99 for virtually unlimited access; 5G a month should be plenty for browsing and email. Tack on about another $20/month to your bill just for the taxes and junk fees. My monthly phone bill, with another carrier, suffers from the same type of surcharge inflation.

Highly recommended for laptop owners who want to cut the cord. If you use your laptop in the same spot every day - go with a cheaper DSL service.

1 out of 5 stars Slow and too expensive for what it is   March 24, 2008

Although the Verizon wirelesson USB card is nice because you can take it anywhere, it is very slow compared to most cable and DSL. It also disconnects frequently and randomly. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Faster than any other cellular Internet access card   March 11, 2008
6 out of 6 found this review helpful

My CIO and CEO are happy with Verizon's USB720 and USB150, stating that their Internet browsing experience using these gadgets doesn't differ from when they are on our network or at home using their personal DSL.

Verizon's EVDO cell Internet access service with all the various cards we have is apparently MUCH faster than most of the other cell phone networks (except Sprint which is also EVDO and as fast). I have been using Verizon's PC5740 card for years and it was slower but still comparable to my 3 Mbps DSL ISP access at home.

We also have several other cards by other providers and their internet access is so slow it's dysfunctional. To name a few, T-Mobile - my GC89 usually connecting at horribly slow 100 Kbps; my fellow IT Director stating that his older T-Mobile card is as slow, if not worse; Other users at our organization confirmed that using AT&T card was slow as well, so if you need speedy mobile Internet access, go EVDO (Verizon or Sprint) and avoid GPRS/EDGE (T-Mobile & AT&T). I had a bad experience with their customer service in the past and bought a T-Mobile card when we needed another one, but the horribly slow speed of other cell ISP providers made me change my mind. I'm buying Verizon again because their cell PC cards' internet access seems to be an order of magnitude faster than most of other providers.

Blazing speed. Go for it.
