Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Chamomile, lemon and saffron brighten blonde hair. Use it regularly and get fairer hair. Linseed mucilage results in softer tresses and fresh, organic lemon juice adds a ton of shine. If you always wanted to be a "natural" blonde, here's how to go about it.

3 out of 5 stars Moiturizing, but not lightening   November 22, 2008

Lush advertises Marilyn as a deep conditioner that brings out blonde highlights. After using several tubs, I've found that while it does the former, it has very little effect on hair color. To use Marilyn you basically smooth it all over dry hair. If you've got long and/or thick hair, that means you'll be using quite a bit. Really, you need to drench your hair. Then, you wrap your hair in something- a towel, plastic wrap, whatever, and you wait. Marilyn takes quite a while to work. The longer you leave it in, the better it works. We're talking hours here, not minutes. This is one of the significant downsides to Marilyn- you've got to spend hours with goo on your head. It's fairly good-smelling goo (sort of like a light lemon with some herbs), but it's still gunk all over your head. After however long you've decided to leave it, rinse out in the shower and shampoo and normal. Your hair will be really soft. Lighter, however, is another story. I never noticed any lightening or highlighting effect from Marilyn. I've tried leaving it on for 8 hours. I've tried turning a blowdryer on my Marilyn-ed head, hoping for some heat activation. I feel like if anyone would see results it would be me- I've got light brown hair that gets blonde highlights from the sun. So, while this is good as a conditioner, I can't recommend it as a lightener. Also, it's important to realize that this is a pricey product. I can get about 4 uses out of the pot if I'm economical with it. Granted, my hair is long and thick, but it does take quite a bit to cover the head.
